1Who We Are
TypeTalk is built and operated by Blueprint Online Learning Inc., from British Columbia, Canada. This policy covers the TypeTalk desktop app for Windows and Mac and the typetalk.app website (together, the “Service”). When this policy says “we” or “us,” it means Blueprint Online Learning Inc..
Questions about anything here go to hello@slates.video.
2The Short Version
We built TypeTalk to run on your machine because local is what makes it instant and offline. There is no inference server. Transcription happens entirely on your computer, so your audio and your transcripts physically cannot reach us.
That is not a policy promise you have to take on faith. It is the architecture. A side effect of building it for speed is that we have no way to see what you say or what you write. We could not hand it over if we wanted to, because it never arrives.
3What Stays On Your Machine
The following never leave your computer. There is no code path that sends them anywhere:
- Your audio. It is recorded, transcribed on-device, and discarded. We never receive it.
- Your transcripts and your transcript history.
- Your custom dictionary and any words or replacements you add.
- Your app settings and preferences.
The speech model runs locally on your CPU or GPU. Open netstat while you transcribe and you will see zero network activity from the app. That is the test, and it passes.
4What We Collect
Being honest about local-first means being equally honest about the handful of things that do touch the network. Here is the complete list.
Website analytics
The typetalk.app website uses PostHog for analytics: pages visited, referral source, browser and device type, general region, and conversion events such as starting a download or checkout. This is website data, not app data.
Anonymous in-app telemetry
The desktop app sends anonymous product-usage events to PostHog so we can see where people get stuck and where the funnel leaks. These are counts and event names, for example:
- App launched, app updated, model finished downloading.
- A transcription was started or completed (the event, not its content).
- A feature was opened, a setting was changed, an error was hit.
This telemetry never includes your audio, your transcripts, or the contents of your dictionary. It is the difference between knowing “a transcription ran” and knowing what was said. We only know the former.
Purchase data
When you buy a lifetime license, your email and payment are handled by Stripe. We receive the transaction confirmation and your email so we can issue and validate your license. We never see or store your full card number; Stripe handles the card.
License email
We store the email tied to your license so we can validate it and send your magic-link sign-in. That is the email's only job here.
5The Model Download
On first run, the app downloads the speech model (Parakeet TDT 0.6B v3) once from Hugging Face. After that it lives on your disk and runs offline forever; the download does not repeat unless you reinstall or the model is updated. Hugging Face sees a file download the way any host sees a file request. It does not see your audio, because at that point there is none.
6Cookies & Website Analytics
On typetalk.app we use PostHog analytics, which sets cookies to measure page views, sessions, and conversions for our own funnel. We use this to understand how the site performs and to measure our own marketing. We do not sell this data, and we do not let third parties use our site for their own ad targeting. The desktop app sets no cookies.
7How We Use Information
We use the small amount of data we collect to:
- Issue, validate, and recover your license.
- Send transactional email, like your sign-in link and purchase receipt.
- Understand product usage in aggregate so we can fix what is broken and build what is missing.
- Measure our own marketing and website performance.
- Answer your support requests.
We do not sell your data, we do not rent it, and we do not use anything to train AI models. There is nothing to train on; the content stays on your machine.
8Third Parties
The full list of services that touch any of the above, and what each one does:
- Stripe processes payments and handles your card; we never see the card number.
- Our license API stores your license and the email tied to it, and validates your sign-in.
- Resend delivers transactional email such as your magic-link sign-in and receipts.
- PostHog handles website analytics and anonymous in-app usage events, never your content.
- Hugging Face serves the one-time speech-model download on first run.
- Vercel hosts the typetalk.app website.
9Data Retention
Your local data (audio, transcripts, dictionary, settings) lives on your machine for exactly as long as you keep it, and is gone when you delete it or uninstall. We have no copy.
Your license email and purchase records are kept for as long as your license is active and as long as we are required to keep billing records. Anonymous telemetry and website analytics are retained in aggregate for product and marketing analysis. Ask us to delete what we hold and we will, except where we are legally required to keep a billing record.
10Your Rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for a copy, or ask us to delete it. Because the only personal data we hold is your license email and purchase records, this is usually a quick request. Email hello@slates.video and we will handle it. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under laws such as GDPR, CCPA, PIPEDA, or BC PIPA; those rights apply and the same email reaches us.
11Children's Privacy
TypeTalk is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, email hello@slates.video and we will delete it.
12International Data Transfers
We operate from British Columbia, Canada. The limited data we do collect (your license email, purchase records, analytics) may be processed in Canada and the United States, where our service providers operate. Your audio and transcripts are never part of this because they never leave your machine.
13Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and, for material changes, let license holders know by email. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
